Cancer LOVED ONE OR FRIEND
Cancer and the Family
Cancer changes family life for all members of the family
for sometime. Cancer patients usually need special
medical treatment for a lengthy period of timeand may go
to the hospital or clinic often. Family members may
react differently to these events. Some are afraid, some
worry, some are nervous, and some will not exhibit any
change at all. Regardless, cancer always alters the
family and their interactions with the patient and each
other.
Cancer patients will change, whether
it is their daily routine, physical presence, or their
emotional state. Almost
all cancer patients will be tired, sick and/or weak from
the treatments. They may also be nervous, or angry,
or worried about the future, and may be tense or difficult
to talk to. Some people may go on just as if nothing
has happened. It's important to remember that each
person reacts in his or her own way. Anticipating change,
whatever its form may help family members to cope.
