OncoLogics Celebrates National Cancer Survivors Day Sunday, June 7
National Cancer Survivors Day®, the world’s largest cancer survivor event, is held the first Sunday in June each year. To commemorate this worldwide celebration of life, OncoLogics, Inc. hosted its 16th annual National Cancer Survivors’ Day celebration at River Oaks Catering and Event Center in Lafayette on Sunday, June 7, 2009.
Over 500 cancer survivors, caregivers, family members, friends and healthcare professionals united to celebrate the tremendous accomplishment achieved together… survivorship.
Sunday’s event included a magic show by Rob Rue, bingo, door prizes, hand massages, Reiki, and a wonderful meal. The following agencies were available for questions and provided information about assistance available to patients and caregivers: Miles Perret Cancer Services, Komen Acadiana, American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Dietician Juliana Briscoe.
“The life and spirit of our patients has been a beacon of courage to the lives they touch. Their ability to shine in the face of adversity serves as a guiding light for us all. We are proud to host this event, to celebrate their courage, determination and tireless efforts,” said Dr. Maitland DeLand of OncoLogics, Inc.
Many local businesses contributed to the festivities by donating plants, prizes, gift certificates and other items. A complete list of those businesses can be found below. A special thanks to the Lafayette High Lady Lions basketball team who volunteered their time to serve attendees.
