SPECIAL SERIES: NEW AT ONCOLOGICS
As part of our relentless pursuit in the
fight against cancer, OncoLogics continues to offer new services
and programs for patients and their families. We believe true recovery
comes from a comprehensive approach that involves treatment, stress
reduction, and lifestyle changes. With that in mind, we have incorporated
the following services. Please let us know what you think about these
new services or send questions to info@oncologics.net.
DIETICIAN/NUTRITION
OncoLogics
has partnered with dietician Julianna Briscoe to address the
nutritional aspects of cancer recovery. Julianna will, initially,
be available at OncoLogics' Lafayette offices.
OncoLogics and Julianna will also display information
at those offices on how diet affects all phases of cancer recovery.
Some of the issues addressed include: proper portion size, daily
recommended caloric intake, percentage of fat present in the diet,
recommended daily caloric intake during treatment, meal ideas for
the busy patient, eating habits that boost the immune system and
many more. All educational materials are free of charge to our
patients.
REIKI
At
OncoLogics, we feel that fighting cancer is more than just receiving
treatments. True recovery comes from changes to your lifestyle, diet,
and attitude as well as reducing your stress level and pampering
yourself. With this in mind, OncoLogics CentreWomen is proud to now
offer Reiki sessions to our patients.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction
and relaxation that promotes healing. It is administered by the "laying on of hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
We are fortunate to have Maxine Vacarella, Reiki Master/Teacher/Expert,
who has volunteered to provide these services to our patients, free
of charge. Currently, this service is exclusive to
the CentreWomen location. Each patient may receive up to two hours
of Reiki, which
may be broken up into multiple sessions. “Patients who come in for
a treatment, come back for more,” says Vacarella. “This
is a mind, body, and spirit approach to healing. Patients find
a decrease in pain, headaches, and a lift of their overall spirits.” If
you are a patient at any OncoLogics location and would like to make
an appointment, please call Alana Hargrave at CentreWomen, (337)
706-8960.
