SPECIAL SERIES: NEW AT ONCOLOGICS
ALANA HARGRAVE 2009 SPIRIT OF HOPE WINNER

OncoLogics is pleased to announce that Alana Hargrave, L.C.S.W.,
is a 2009 recipient of the Acadiana Chapter of the American Cancer
Society’s Spirit of Hope Award. This marks two consecutive
years that a member of OncoLogics has been honored with this
distinguished award. M. Maitland DeLand, M.D., was a recipient
of the Award in 2008.
The Spirit of Hope Award recognizes the talents and achievements
of healthcare professionals, cancer survivors, and community leaders
from the Acadiana area who have distinguished themselves in the fight
against cancer.
The individuals selected for this Award represent the “spirit” of
our organization and the dedication of all those involved in the
fight against cancer. They are among the top in their fields, exemplifying
excellence in education, experience, community service and commitment
to the American Cancer Society.
Miss Hargrave’s primary responsibilities at OncoLogics include
addressing the patient’s psychological, social and emotional
functioning and needs during cancer treatment through a holistic,
mind, body, and spiritual healing approach. Through partnerships
with the patients, Miss Hargrave fosters an environment which encourages
patients to focus primarily on recovery and healing all aspects of
self, while she assists the patient in identifying, arranging, and
or providing resources that address other specific needs before,
during, and after treatment. Miss Hargrave has a lifelong passion
for serving in a healing capacity, enjoys a rewarding career in social
work and an active role as a community volunteer, and works closely
with the American Cancer Society and other cancer related organizations.
“ At OncoLogics, I am privileged to witness the true impact of
the various support services available to our patients, each and every
day – whether it is a transportation grant for someone to receive
lifesaving treatment, or watching female survivors as they move from
tears to hope and laughter in Look Good Feel Better programs. For
me, these small miracles are what it is all about. Cancer has
affected me profoundly, on a personal, professional, and spiritual
level. The resiliency of the human spirit, especially that of
a young child or an elderly loved one is amazingly uplifting. This
to me is priceless!”
